Welcoat Upsets Brgy. Ginebra
Posted by Renan on 2007-10-28The Welcoat Dragons registered its first win of the 2007-2008 Smart PBA Philippine Cup, surviving a big fourt-quarter rally by the defending champions, Brgy. Ginebra Kings, 82-64 at the Capiz Gymnasium in Roxas City yesterday.
Trailing most of the way and as much as 23 points, the Kings made a huge 18-0 run in the fourth ta close the gap o just two, 64-66 tih still 5:47 left in the game. But that was to be their last stand as the Dragons scored the last 16 points of the game with big men Nic Belasco and Jay-R Reyes leading the way.
Nic Belasco came up big with his 3rd straight double-double finishing with 17 points and a conference-high 19 rebounds. Jay-R Reyes also finished with a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. ob Wainwright added 15 for the Dragons.
Billy Mamaril led the Kings with 17 points and Jayjay Helterbrand added 14. The Kings are still without Eric Menk and Mark Caguioa, both are still recuparating from injuries.
