Tubid, Cablay summoned

Already feeling the absence of Mark Caguioa and Eric Menk, Ginebra may soon find itself without another key player.
Ronald Tubid has been summoned by the PBA today to explain his side after allegedly triggering a near free-for-all in the Gin Kings' humiliating 27-point loss (76-103) to tournament leader and sister-team Purefoods Sunday night.
Tubid was whistled for a technical foul and so was Brandon Cablay early in the fourth quarter after the two nearly traded blows.
The Gin Kings guard hit Cablay with his left elbow while trying to pivot, and then went straight to the basket and received a hard foul from Cablay.
Tubid fell on his back, and Cablay -- obviously furious -- appeared all set to choke the energetic Ginebra player, but cooler heads intervened.
As of press time, PBA technical committee chief Perry Martinez and his staff were reviewing the tape of the game.
They will make a decision today after hearing the sides of the players.
Also summoned by the league were Cablay and Talk 'N Text players Jay Washington and Harvey Carey and Bryan Wilson of Magnolia for drawing technical fouls during their Muntinlupa contest Saturday.
The Phone Pals won that match, 100-94.
Since the Philippine Cup began last Oct. 14, a total of 23 technical fouls have already been called on players alone.
Two suspensions have already been served, one on Red Bull coach Yeng Guiao, and the other on Roger Yap of Purefoods for punching Magnolia's LA Tenorio near the groin area.
Apparently, the rising statistic on 'Ts' is being blamed on the league's new officiating rules, which is now much more lenient compared to the time of former PBA commissioner Noli Eala.
The rules have already been criticized, first by Alaska team owner Wilfred Uytengsu, and then by Guiao, who said that "we cannot play Russian roulette with the health of the players."
Guiao's comments came after the Bulls, already short in manpower, lost Junthy Valenzuela to a hamstring injury in the game against Sta. Lucia last Nov. 2.
The Pampanga vice-governor blamed the game's physicality for Valenzuela's injury.
